Reception scaffolding 1: characters in films – post-viewing activity

Post-viewing activities:

Step 1:      Look for two pupils who have worked on the same character as you have. Exchange your perceptions and add information.

(single character groups: teams of three working on Matilda, the mother OR the father)
Step 2 A:     Look for two pupils who have each worked on different characters (e.g. mother and father) and not on the character you have worked on (e.g. Matilda). Tell your team partners what your character is like and listen to the character descriptions of your team partners.

(mixed character groups: teams of three working on Matilda, the mother AND the father)

Step 2 B:    Compare your findings:
What characters show the same actions/behaviour or a same way of speaking?
What characters show different actions/behaviour or a different way of speaking?

(mixed character groups: teams of three working on Matilda, the mother AND the father)
Step 3:  Write a short characterization of the character you have worked on. Start with the character's name, describe the face, then the actions and behaviour and the way of speaking. Close your characterization with one sentence that best sums up your perception of the character.
