A project in connection with a school trip
Topic 1 - Meet ‘Miss Potter’ (watch scenes from the movie - everybody )
- Analyse selected scenes of the movie ( everybody )
- Write a film review for a young people’s magazine
- Research facts about Beatrix Potter’s life – write an entry for a children’s encyclopedia
- Peter WHO? Write a book review – would you recommend her stories for today’s kids?
- You have found an ‘old’ newspaper containing an interview with Miss Potter conducted shortly before her death – write that interview and present it to the class
- Write an informative text for a young people’s magazine about the life of women in Miss Potter’s time
Topic 2 – ‘I wandered lonely …’ William Wordsworth and his poem (dealing with poems – with a difference; everybody )
- Transfer ‘The Daffodils’ into another kind of text
- Be creative - illustrate the poem
- Write your own poem
- Facts about the poet’s life – for kids’ encyclopedia
Topic 3 – Tourism
- The homes of W. Wordsworth and B. Potter – prepare a page for a brochure
- Information about the National Trust (its aims and tasks; the jobs it offers to young people)
- Statistics – how important is the Lake District for British tourism?
- The landscape, what to do, where to stay – prepare information for a brochure (pictures can be added after the trip) and design at least one page
- Write a review of the youth hostel in Derwent Water and put it on the hostels website (after the trip)
- Write an article for a young people’s magazine: ‘The Lake District – a place for you?’
- Write a questionnaire and conduct a survey among the students at Withington School (e-mail?), analyse the data
