Der Bildungsplan erwartet, dass Schülerinnen und Schüler der Kursstufe
„nicht nur sprachlich korrekte, sondern stilistisch anspruchsvolle Texte verfassen (…) [und] (…) unterschiedliche Schreibintentionen verwirklichen (…)

Die verschiedenen Merkmale unterschiedlicher Stilebenen / Register müssen deshalb immer wieder thematisiert und eingeübt werden. Am Anfang steht die Analyse.

TASK: Read the following sentences and find out why they belong to formal, standard / neutral or informal / colloquial style.

 

1. Formal Style

He is an extremely talkative boy.
The accused is a person who has not yet reached the age of ten.
Taking everything into consideration, it can be said that the facilities
offered are of poor quality.
I hereby request that the meeting be postponed till Thursday.
Our university purposes to be more than just a job-training centre.

2. Standard / Neutral Style

The boy talks a lot.
John is a nine-year-old boy.
I would like the meeting to be postponed till Thursday.
Our university intends to be more than just a job-training centre.
You have done a very good job.

3. Informal / Colloquial Style

This guy is an old windbag.
It’s gonna be a long cold winter.
I was like, “Leave me alone!”
I got a handy little article here.
If we don’t sell our house soon,

we’ll be up the creek without a paddle.
we’ll be up shit creek.
