Infobox

Diese Seite ist Teil einer Materialiensammlung zum Bildungsplan 2004: Grundlagen der Kompetenzorientierung. Bitte beachten Sie, dass der Bildungsplan fortgeschrieben wurde.

BRITISHNESS

Page 1 - Autostereotypes

  • Get together in groups of 4. Talk about the cartoons and write in your own words what the typical attitudes and idiosyncrasies shown in these cartoons are.
  • Read the text and compare the autostereotypes with the clichés you have / had about the British. Write a short paragraph about the similarities and differences.

Use the dictionary to look up unknown words and add them to the list on the last sheet

Page 2 - Description of a cartoon

  • Describe the cartoon, using expressions like: in the foreground / background; on the right / left; speech / thought bubble …
  • Discuss in your group what the point is that the cartoonist is trying to make, then write a short paragraph about it.

Page 3 - On your own now!

Describe and analyse the cartoon (don’t forget to take a close look at the speech bubbles!) and compare it with the text. Write a text of at least 120 - 150 words. (Don’t forget: introduction, paragraphs, conclusion, linkers.)

NEW WORDS
autostereotype: clichés people have about themselves
idiosyncrasy: peculiarity; Eigenart, Eigenheit
similarity: resemblance, being like sb or sth, but not exactly the same
